Discovery rig building facility from the global drilling industry prospective is one of the largest in Europe and the world.

The facility was completely rebuilt in 2006-2007 to meet all modern industry requirements.

Shop 1

Total area of 5,000 square meters.
Consists of 4 manufacturing bays.
Mud, water and diesel tanks, all kinds of skids, roofs, as well as piping for drilling equipment are manufactured here.
Equipped with 8 cranes with the capacity up to 10 tons.
Band-saw is mounted here for blank production.
Turning, grinding, press and drilling lathes are available here.

Shop 2

Total area of 3,000 square meters.
The shop consists of 1 manufacturing bay.
Equipped with 4 cranes with the capacity up to 5 tons.
Holds 2 plasma cutting machines (for plates).

Shop 3

Total area of 6,000 square meters.
The shop consists of 4 manufacturing bays.
95% of the machining of parts for all projects are performed here.
Equipped with 4 cranes with the capacity up to 10 tons.
2 bays are equipped with infrared heating systems.

Shop 4

Total area of 5 thousands square meters.
The shop consists of 2 manufacturing bays.
Rig masts and substructures are manufactured here.
The shop is equipped with 10 cranes with the capacity up to 20 tons.
Shop has 2 band-saws for blank production. Turning, grinding, drilling and turning-and-boring lathes are located in this shop.
Bays are equipped with infrared heating systems.

Shop 7

Total area of 6, 000 square meters.
The shop consists of 1 manufacturing bay.
Equipped with tools for metal working equipment (particularly cutters).
Crown block assemblies for all projects are being manufactured in this shop.
Holds Gantry Crane up to 3 tons.

1885-1938

- The company was set up by UK private investors with manufacturing facility based in Stryi, Galicia, Austria. The company was suing founders’ names and was called: Perkins, Macintosh and Perkins (PMP). The company introduced latest Canadian engineering designs of oil drilling equipment. Its products, which comprised drilling rigs and the various rig components became popular both on regional and international level as they supplied products globally to Europe, Africa and South East Asia. Despite the world war the company was continuously producing equipment as the region was absorbed into Poland and then Soviet Union.

1939-1991 – Under Soviet rule PMP was renamed to Metallist and was keep on producing drilling rigs and components. In 1967-1987 the factory has changed location (within same town) and was extended to what it is now becoming one of the largest drilling rigs facility in Europe. It has supplied the whole USSR with products as well as many other countries under the government treaty programs. At the end of 1980s it employed about 2000 of personnel and produced in average 2 large land rigs a month in addition to various parts and components.

1991-2004 – Since 1991 the USSR was dissolved and the facility occurred on the territory of Ukraine. Because of economic crisis the output has fallen dramatically. The factory was privatized, purchased by private investors and started to specialize on mobile work over rigs and some components, which has been supplied to various FSU countries. In late 2004, the factory became a part of an initiative to build a new rig manufacturing company for the global oil industry. It eventually became a manufacturing base of the new company under international management, which today is known as Discovery Drilling Equipment.
